The Recompiler’s first release will include a print magazine and an online edition, and we aim to have this in your hands this summer. We have three big goals: to present a diverse range of experiences of working with technology, highlighting work from under-represented groups; to create a friendly, participatory environment for learning from each other; and to pay people fairly for their work.
The first thing we need is content to publish. Does being part of a feminist hacker magazine resonate with you? Can you share something you know how to do, how you learned to do it, or what the result was?
Start at the beginning. As people who work with technology, what do we do, how do we do it, and why? We’re looking for tutorials, personal histories, and explorations. If you’d like a writing prompt, try:
- if I could hack on anything, I would…
- the hardest thing about learning to _____ was…
- the best things about _____ are…
We’re also looking for art and illustrations. Doodle a little, draw a lot. Tell your story with pictures. We have space for a color cover illustration, black and white interior images, and additional pieces for the website.
The deadline to submit ideas for this first issue is April 30. Find out more about how you can participate.
